During his senior year of high school, Jay enlisted in the Navy at age 17 and served for 13 years as a Special Operations Bomb Technician. Throughout his Naval career, Jay rose to Chief, Master Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Operator, served five overseas tours, and is a certified High-Risk Naval Instructor. He delivered counter-improvised explosive device expertise to Navy SEALs, Army Rangers, and Green Berets during all phases of multifarious combat missions. As a High-Risk Naval Instructor, Jay supervised and trained over 1000 EOD Operators, Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Operators, and Army Special Operations Forces (SOF) in air mobility tactics, techniques, and procedures.

Through his Naval career, Jay simultaneously attained a Bachelor of Science in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis from Norwich University, became a personal finance coach via Ramsey Solutions’ Financial Coach Master Training and founded a personal finance coaching company servicing both the US Military Special Operations Community and the civilian community with various occupations, debt levels, income, and financial goals.

Today Jay remains dedicated to servant leadership, working as an integral part of the team to inspire others, enhance perception, and mitigate risk. Jay has specialized both throughout his Naval career and in his professional finance coaching practice, relationship building and gaining trust from others. Jay has adapted his focus on coaching, addressing how personal finance decisions directly correlate to leadership and decision-making.

Currently, Jay Ly, the Founder & President of Golden Compass LLC, is a John Maxwell Certified Coach, Speaker, Trainer, and DISC Consultant. He is also a certified member of the International Coaching Federation. Whether walking with you through winning with money or building and enhancing leaders, Jay can offer you workshops, seminars, keynote speaking, and coaching, aiding your personal and professional growth! Jay resides in Virginia with his wife, two sons, and corgi. Whether spending time with family, hiking, camping, or skydiving, he believes that time is our most precious commodity and strives to maximize every second of it.
